The International Dance Theatres Festival OPEN STAGE is a cyclical event, this year presenting dance theatre in the rich context of Polish and world's culture. It brings togeher outstanding and innovative groups and artists from all over the world to popularise the achievements of dance theatre.
VI Open Stage will host dance theatre productions of world-famous choreographers from Poland and from abroad. This year’s performers include:
The programme of the festival also includes:
The ambition of the IV International Dance Theatres Festival OPEN STAGE is to stimulate the development of dance theatre, an art which still has relatively limited opportunities for development and gaining new audiences, through interdisciplinary events closely connected to the subject of dance theatre, both modern and classical. The festival, organised with participation of artists from China, France, and Poland, is an opportunity for reflection on the influence of cultural identities of artists on the technique and expression of dance. At the time of such great cultural migrations, the lack of openness and intercultural dialogue contributes to increasing tensions in the society. The festival is a chance for promoting the attitude of openness to reading cultural codes based on the awareness of one’s own identity and, at the same time, respect for other nations.
OPEN STAGE is also the only internationally recognisable event connected with the art of dance in the Małopolska region. The world-famous choreographer Jacek Przybyłowicz said, “Every year, in October, Mościce Art Centre becomes a European capital of world-class dance.” It is especially important in light of the fact that there are no dance theatres in Małopolska which would be internationally important, and the Festival is the only chance for the audiences of the region to see and get to know world-class artists and to admire their art.
The five editions of the Festival so far have made the name OPEN STAGE recognisable in Israel, Senegal, China, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Norway, France, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, which encouraged groups from those countries to express willingness to take part in the event. The Festival has built a strong network of cooperation with both Polish and foreign theatres, as well as important diplomatic and cultural institutions in Poland.
OPEN STAGE is a widely recognisable event in both Polish and foreign dance circles. It also promotes the development of culture in the Małopolska region and in Poland. The idea of OPEN STAGE, unlike other Polish dance theatre festivals, is to present mainly large theatre groups with world-class repertoire, and the most valuable productions in terms of concept and technique.
The Ambassadors of the Sixth International Dance Theatres Festival OPEN STAGE are:
JACEK PRZYBYŁOWICZ AND WITOLD JUREWICZ.
